Fun Frugal Microwave Popcorn

I love popcorn.  My kids love popcorn.  However microwave popcorn as you buy it in the store is expensive, fattening and full of horrible things that I can not begin to pronounce.  Then I found a great way to make it for just pennies!

Here is how!

  • 1/3 cup popping corn
  • 1 brown paper bag
  • tape
  • butter (optional)
  • salt (optional)

Open your bag.  Dump in the 1/3 cup of un-popped popping corn.  Fold bag over twice, then put about one inch of tape in the middle.  Place in the microwave, lay flat and cook on high until you have about 6-5 seconds between pops (you have to play with it a bit because microwaves vary).

Remove and add butter and salt if you desire!

Homemade Mrs. Meyer’s Liquid Hand Soap

By richel on April 13th, 2013

Homemade-Mrs-meyers-handsoap

I love the Mrs. Meyer’s products.  They have the most wonderful, luxurious smell to them.  The thing is, they are a bit on the expensive side.  When I can score regular old not so fancy hand soap for .50 cents at the dollar store with a coupon, well it makes me feel bad when I pick up that 12.5 ounce bottle of Mrs. Meyers for nearly $8 a bottle and consider buying it!

Then….I learned how to make it on my own for just about $5 a GALLON…yep just $5.00 and I can get a whole gallon of it!  If you were to buy a whole gallon of the liquid soap it would cost you over $50.00It lasts like forever, make wonderful gifts and even cute little goodie bag fillers for baby showers, bridal showers and so on.

To make this you will need:

  • 1 Bar of Mrs. Meyer’s Soap (they have basil, lemon verbena, lavender and geranium scents
  • Cheese grater
  • 2 Tablespoons of Liquid Glycerin (found in the band aid section at any drugstore or grocery store)
  • 1 gallon of water

First grate your soap.  Then add the 1 gallon of water to a pot along with your grated soap.  Add the 2 tablespoons of Glycerin and start stirring your mixture over medium high until you have disolved your soap.  Let it cool for about 24 hours.

The soap will be harder and what I did was use my electric mixer to give it a good spin.  If it is too thick add about 1/2 cup to 1/4 cup of warm water to your mixture while you are using the hand mixer.  Now you have one gallon of liquid soap for a cost of $5 or less.  That is $45 in savings or more!

* A couple people have asked if this will ruin the pot but I have never had an issue as long you you do not burn it!

Flip Flops for .99 cents at Kmart

By richel on April 11th, 2013

Right now you can score a great deal on flip flops at Kmart.  Look for this both online (while supplies last) and in store.  I just visited the local Kmart last night and they had tons of these.  If you are a crafty person, these are awesome to decorate!

So the deal is hot right now so hurry! Kmart has several flip flops on sale, starting at just $0.99! Head on over to Kmart and type in the name of the sandals below in the search box, then click “Search” to find the perfect pair!

Browse through all the flip flops by typing “flip flops” in the search bar. Then sort the items from lowest to highest price. This will give those that are .99 cents.  Then you can choose to ship them (not the best deal) or pick them up in store.

When you do this, basically and employee acts as your personal shopper and picks up the items and holds them for you at the layaway desk.  You just head in and pick them up!  It is super easy!  I used this service for some of my Christmas shopping and it was wonderful!

Save Money with Homemade Body Wash

When you look at how much stuff costs, it makes your head spin.  I knew that buying body wash in the bottle was way more expensive than buying a bar soap but honestly, I hate bar soap.  So being a big “Pinner” I found a great recipe for homemade body wash on Pinterest and since it was really easy to make, I gave it a go!

You need:

6 cups water
2 bars of soap

  • Put water into a pan on the stove and bring to a boil, then turn down to medium heat. Microwave the bars of soap one at a time for approximately 90 seconds in a microwave-safe container.
  • When melted, immediately transfer to pot of water. Continue stirring over medium heat until all the soap is dissolved.  You want to make sure every piece of soap is completely dissolved before you transfer it to containers.
  • When completely dissolved…transfer to a glass jar or bowl and allow to cool, then pour into a plastic bottle for shower use!

Don’t freak out if it is not the consitency that you are expecting. It will thicken as it cools and will continue to thicken for about 24 hours. If it gets TOO thick…simply add some water until it’s the desired consistency.

I bought a six pack of the Dove Bars for $6.30. ($1.05 each)
I used 2 of the bars at a cost of $2.10 I got one large container of body wash just under 48 ounces. Normally for this much body wash I pay about $9.00 or more when I buy it in the bottles.

Migraine pain is some of the worst pain you can endure. When you’re suffering from a migraine, you just want it to go away as soon as possible! Here is a proven way to help it disappear – no medicine needed! This will work for headache pain as well.

Just submerge your feet and hands in hot/warm water and put a bag of frozen peas (or other frozen product) at the base of your skull. The heat on your extremities pulls the blood from your head relieving some/all of your headache.
