Fun 2B Frugal Teacher Appreciation Gifts
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and we hope you have had the kids tell their teacher thanks for all the work they do. As many know teachers often work hours long after the “time to go home bell” rings for the day. Although we are homeschoolers, I have many friends that are teachers and they tell me that these are their top gifts or little thank you’s that they have enjoyed most over the year:
- Gift card to their favorite restaurant
- iTunes gift cards
- Parents that offer to come and help a the end of the year (inventory books, clean up, host activities)
- Functional gifts like cool tote bags, eco-friendly cups, or things that reflect what they love to do like cook books for a teacher that loves cooking or a book on hiking for the out doors lover.
You don’t have to be really crafty to get a great gift! Check out these great ideas: They are simple but really nice.
If you have some extra time, you might want to ask your child’s co-teachers what their interests are if you don’t know. Often just showing your appreciation through making a meaningful gesture like thanking them is just as wonderful as a gift!
Homemade Vanilla Syrup
A bottle of fancy flavored syrup will run you between $3 and $8 depending on the size you buy. I rarely ever see coupons for it and the only way to get a deal (until now) is to buy it in bulk. I’d have to say that this recipe will make twice as much will cost you less than $1.00!
The bonus is you’ll know exactly what the ingredients are of and if you prefer to use organic or all natural products you can do that too. This also allows you to make enough to give as gifts. How nice it would be to make a great gift basket with all the fixings for iced coffee, or a morning breakfast basket with coffee, a cute mug and all the fixings for both!
This is also perfect for making vanilla milkshakes, adding to soda or other dishes!
Ingredients:
3 ½ cups water
3 cups sugar
½ cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons vanilla extract
Directions:
In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, gently stir together the water and sugars. It is vital that you watch this so that the sugar does not burn or scald. Cook until mixture becomes thick and syrupy (approximately 10-15 minutes).
Allow to cool and stir in vanilla extract. Yields 1 quart.
Get Organized with Cereal Boxes
I have been on this big organizational kick lately. We have so much stuff and I want to “purge and organize” the house. Organizational tools can be expensive. I got a great deal on those large plastic tubs for some stuff but was so frustrated that the little drawer organizers were more than the cost of the big tubs!
Then I hit Pinterest and found this great idea for using cereal boxes (or the boxes from other things like crackers) to organize your drawers. All you need is a razor blade for cutting and you are set!
